Education Team

This team, co-chaired by Tom Ellis and Patrick Woods, comprises alliances concerned with educational development and enrichment for all ages.

VISION
Shawnee County will promote development of broad based skills to prepare students for lifelong learning that is globally competitive: intellectually, socially, economically, culturally and personally.

Here are a few highlights about alliances and projects happening in our community:

WorkKeys testing. link to http://www.act.org/workkeys/ Tests will be given to all high school seniors in Shawnee County to determine the student’s fitness for employment, identifying strengths and weaknesses.
Alliance involved in this strategy - all Shawnee County school districts and GO Topeka

Kansas Children’s Discovery Center. link to http://www.kansasdiscovery.org/ More than $6 million was raised in the community and ground was broken, with expected completion of late 2010.

iSave Program. The Washburn University Leadership Institute link to http://www.washburn.edu/main/leadership/ Established the WU and You newspaper publication and the iSave Program for Washburn University Student Discounts.
